We work to empower African communities through collaborations in Europe and beyond.

Diaspora people share a common identity that extends from their original country into other countries. At United Diaspora we connect people and opportunities through business, educational and cultural exchange.

Our model initiated in Sierra Leone and it can be applied to other developing countries.

United Diaspora

promotes the idea of “trade, not aid” through practical activities with economical value, international business opportunities and educational & cultural exchange programs around the world.

United Diaspora is the result of two worlds merging together through the collaboration of Marina Hildegard Sesay– the 7th Hildegard in a Nordic bloodline and MORASTA – Abdul Rahman Sesay.

Morasta will act from the base in Western Africa and Marina from the base in Northern Europe.

Their effort on having a positive social impact started before UnitedDiaspora was created.

OUR STORY

Marina and Morasta represent a link to the movement of social empowerment of developing communities.

Marina Hildegard Sesay

Marina has been involved with international organizations that deal with social & health affairs, human rights and crises management.

She has worked as a therapist, a coach and a mentor. Multiculturalism is her comfort zone and based on her experience, Marina has provided guidance on dealing with diversity in organised work.

All her experience and passion is now invested in United Diaspora, not only by providing services but also contributing with the development of projects.

Abdul Rahman Sesay - MORASTA

Abdul Rahman, initiated the MORASTA movement (Movement of religious awareness shown to Africa) and now he is known by that name.

In Sierra Leone, Morasta’s work has diffused tensions by taking into account the common good of communities with organised, sustainable practices of inclusion beyond religious beliefs.

Through music and practical work, he has activated change in African communities by introducing alternative solutions in developing collaboration. This has allowed people to reconnect to one another and with a wider purpose.

“Marina and I have a spiritual connection and from the beginning I knew she is my twin partner. Together we want to develop good spiritual things with a very practical organization.”

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to unite people in the diaspora and organisations to work together, to empower communities in their home land to be independent in every way. We want not only to unite, to empower and to enable people but also share the skills and the experience of our community. We are working for one family, one world and one spirit, by connecting traditions, culture and practical life.

OUR MODEL

Our model is a combination of different methods and tailor-made programs inclusion, tolerance and work opportunities. This new approach will benefit both developing communities and the society at large. UnitedDiaspora’s model will also enable the youth to reach their full potential and thrive in their community.

Our project on United Diaspora base will start in cooperation with different suppliers. With the help of our suppliers and co-partners, we will be building the base for United Diaspora as a pilot project, where we hope to build a holistic, community-based system can be applied and grow into different systems, such as housing, agriculture and other activities.

We seek grants from the European Union, the African Union and other organizations, and we welcome donations through the Godparent Program and Voluntours.

All the profit channelled through United Diaspora will be re-invested into the communities we assist or new projects with social impact.

Methods & Services in Africa and Northern Europe

Therapy

In order to address traumatic events that may have happened to members of the community, we will collaborate with professionals, experienced in dealing with mental health through various approaches of therapy, including art therapy, narrative psychology and psychosynthesis.

Mentorship

With the intention of enabling the formation and development of identity, it is important that the youth acknowledge the benefits of their own culture.

UnitedDiaspora will have a team of cultural mentors who share similar backgrounds, cultures and languages as the ones needing assistance.

Storytelling

Together with story mediators we will utilize metaphors and trigger-questions to stimulate the externalization of thoughts and exchange of experiences. This method introduces ways to process emotions and develop one’s own story. The objective is to frame the positive aspects of the story to validate the individual’s identity within the community.

Informing and teaching about hemp in SL. Second step agriculture farming testing and development in SL.

Base in Finland

“We want to create a home of education for advice, counselling and other alternative therapies. The home is meant to be a place where we share our vision and connect people with work. Without being a traditional spiritual place, the house would be a home for transformation where the activities will result in very tangible outcomes for those in need. This would be a model that can be applied in different places.”

Hemp farming

There are many possibilities for collaboration, community work and trade in Sierra Leone and beyond.

We will work to test and develope our first model of hemp building in Finland together with  building specialists in the hemp industry.
